About Colour Play

A Mill Creek salon built around the people in it

Colour Play Salon opened in 2020 as a traditional open salon: stylists side by side, conversation across the floor, and clients who know more than the person doing their hair. Today it's home to 6 independent beauty and wellness businesses.

Meet the owner

Hi, I'm Melinda. I'm so glad you're here.

I've been behind the chair since 2008, and one thing hasn't changed: I love helping people feel beautiful, confident and like the best version of themselves.

What started as a passion for doing hair grew into my own business in 2013. In 2020, I took a big leap and opened my own salon.

When I started dreaming about what Colour Play would be, I knew I wanted a traditional, open salon rather than a suite setup where every stylist works separately behind a closed door. There's a place for both. For me, the best part of this industry has always been the people: the conversations, the laughter, stylists bouncing ideas off one another and learning from each other.

Why I built an open salon

Working alongside other talented stylists is something special. We learn from each other, encourage one another, celebrate each other's wins, and occasionally yell across the salon, “Okay, come look at this color!” That sense of teamwork and community is exactly what I wanted in the salon I built.

I wanted the same feeling for our clients. When you walk through the door, I want it to feel like coming to a place where people know you and are happy to see you, somewhere you can relax, laugh and be yourself.

What I do in my chair

Hair is my happy place. I specialize in blonding, foils, traditional and fashion colors, extensions, and haircuts for women, men and kids. I also offer facial waxing, brow lamination, brow and lash tinting and microblading, because great hair deserves great brows too.

Come in ready for a complete transformation, or come in because those roots need handling before anyone notices. I've got you either way.

A little about me

I'm a wife and a mom of two, so I understand busy schedules, messy mornings, and that a salon appointment is sometimes the closest thing you get to “me time” all week. No judgment here. Come in, get comfortable, and let me take care of you for a while.

Some of my clients have been with me for years. They've trusted me with new looks, big life moments and plenty of conversations that stay between us and the salon chair, and getting to be a small part of their lives is something I'm incredibly grateful for.

My goal is simple. I want you to feel comfortable while you're here, love what you see in the mirror, and walk out a little more confident than when you came in.

Come for the hair, stay for the laughs, and leave feeling fabulous.

The Colour Play model

An open salon, by choice

Colour Play combines the independence of renting with the energy of a traditional salon floor, and keeps private rooms for the services that need them.

A typical salon suite

  • Every professional behind their own closed door
  • Clients see one person and one room
  • Ideas and referrals stay inside each suite

Colour Play Salon

  • Stylists side by side on an open floor, each running an independent business
  • Private rooms for esthetics and medical aesthetics, where privacy matters
  • Clients discover hair, skin, brow and med spa pros under one roof

The space

Industrial bones, soft edges

The salon pairs exposed timber joists and polished concrete with blush chevron walls, rattan pendants, macramé poufs and a botanical mural at reception. Roll-up doors open the shampoo row to a patio lined with evergreens.

For clients, that means a bright, relaxed place to spend an afternoon. For the professionals who work here, it means stations with real storage, a lounge for early arrivals, and a patio for the break between appointments.
